Metal Love with Creative Embellishments

I am up today on the Creative Embellishments blog with an altered Tim Holtz configuration book box.  I wanted to make the box as a gift to store metal goodies. Yum.  On the outside I wanted to give the appearance of metal but ended up using mostly chippie goodness. 

I started off the box layering medical tape and covering with gesso and using a Tim Holtz diamond stencil with modeling paste for texture.  I stamped into the wet paste for texture.  I used the steampunk gear frame as the main piece for the top of the box.  I layered with an assortment of gears, loose parts, and propellers.  These pieces work really well together and you get so many pieces in the package that I can usually stretch it for several projects.  I painted with different shades of grey by varying amounts of a black and white acrylic mixture.  I highlighted parts of the box with silver rub and buff and patina Guilder's paste.  I finished off with some metal bits.






In the center of the frame I added drywall mesh, punchinella. modeling paste, a metal heart, and chipboard letters.  I covered them all with torn pieces of metal that I burnished down and added over alcohol inks.  I went over the letters with silver rub-n-buff to make them stand out.


For the inside of the box, I used Marion Smith's Nirvana collection.  I kept it pretty simple as I wanted it to be practical.  I finished the edges of the inner boxes with black washi tape brushed with a little of the silver rub-n-buff.
