They Call Me The Ice Queen for Creative Embellishments

It is challenge time again.  This month's challenge was to use texture with gesso, texture paste, etc. using the picture below as inspiration.  Check us out at CreativeEmbellishments.BlogSpot.com.

Here is my take on the challenge:

I made a 12" wall hanging using 7 Dots Studio Cold Country Paper.  I love all the visual texture that paper already has.  After constructing the rosette, I added splatters of Heidi Swapp sprays in Teal, Black, and Tinsel.  I added around randomly in spots Prima ArtExtravagance Texture Paste in silver and edged the whole thing with a Prima chalk edger in Black Coal.  The trim around the center is a trim dyed in the same sprays I used to splatter.  I fussy cut an image from Tim Holtz found relatives and added a crown.  My favorite part is all the chippies.  I sprayed using various glitter blast sprays to add texture and shine then added some of the sprays over the top to get various shades over the snowflakes, clock hand snowflakes, and the snowflake frame #2.  To finish it off, I added bits of the  harlequin lattice underneath the trim.

Christmas Tag for Creative Embellishments

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.  I really loved the photo for this month's Creative Embellishment's challenge.  I decided I wanted to make a tag using the photo as inspiration.  The challenge was to also use a stencil or mask.

Challenge Photo:

I built a shadow box tag out of coverstock.  I designed and cut the pieces on the Silhouette.  I covered the entire thing in gesso and then a super thick layer of modeling paste for the grout.  I used coarse pumice gel mixed with tomato red paint to use with a brick stencil.  I used Lindy's Stamp Gang spray to dye the seam binding.  I used a gear (of course there had to be a gear) as a grommet/wreath.  I colored it with a green Sharpie and then used a red Pearl pen by Viva Décor to make the red berries.

I used a resin frame painted white and two Mellissa Frances frames to frame G45 images from their Christmas collections.

I painted a Prima fire place mantel that I painted white.  I used to frame the shadow box opening for the fireplace.  I used a bottle brush tree and cut down the back to make lay flat against the tag and added Christmas lights and tinsel garland.  For the stockings, I used pieces from the stocking border and colored them with Viva Décor Pearl pens in Ice White and Red.  I love how they come out with a shiny pearl sheen.  I used a white acrylic paint pen to create the stitching. I added a little rug and fussy cut the Santa with children image to finish off the tag.

A Merry Christmas to All

Merry Christmas everyone.  I hope you are all enjoying your Christmas Eve/Christmas depending what side of the world you are on.

As many of you have seen previous posts, I had been working on a Steampunk Tree.  I have a really good start on it, but I think over the next year I am going to concentrate on making some additional ornaments to add to it.  Hoping to make some 3d trains, airships, hot air balloons, dressforms, etc.  So here are some pictures of the tree now:

I spray painted the tree in hammered bronze and copper spray paints - boy I need to learn how to take better pictures this year.  I am definitely a work in progress.

Second Chances - A bird house for Creative Embellishments.

I am up today over on the Creative Embellishments blog.  I made this project for a swap with the theme of second chances. The main part of your project had to be from something that you would normally recycle or throw away.  I was inspired by the Prima bird house frames and decided to construct my own version out the cardboard inserts from long johns (I layered them so that it would be more sturdy) and pop cans.  I used the Prima Engraver paper line  to cover my structure.  I went over the paper on the outside with dry brushing gesso to tone the paper down.

I used Krylon Glitter Blast sprays on the birds and then went over them with rust Lumiere paint.  For the branch I added texture paste and then painted it in chocolate brown and highlighted in tan acrylic paint. I added raw chipboard gears around the front intermixed with the roses.  I added pieces of the chicken wire panel to the front, sides, roof, and back.  I inked with bronze Lumiere paint.  I added a little banner across the front along with a Prima bird bath, little home sign, and nest.  Around the front and back of the bird house I added some vines that I had in my stash.

For the roof I cut apart two pop cans.  I layered over the top of them metal HVAC tape to make a patchwork stile roof.  I ran it through my little crimping tool and then used alcohol inks.

Fireworks going off over at Unruly Arts

It's time again for the monthly challenge at Unrulypaperarts.com.  The RAQ (Reader Art Quest) challenge for this month is Fireworks.

Now this is a different color palate than I am used to using, so it was certainly a challenge.  Once I found this paper with the quote in paper stack I had in my stash, the rest fell into place.  I loved that the black background reminded me of the night sky in the above picture.  In the same stack there was a bright pattern piece that had all the above colors.  I tore the parts of the black to shine through.  I sealed with multi-medium matte.  I love the look of brush strokes.
Now for the fireworks.  I wanted to give the feel of the bright colors in the dark sky to my page without doing an actual firework image.  So I decided that one my favorite techniques right now would come into play - paint splatters.  I watered down acrylic paints in each color and splattered.  I had to pull back a little or there would be no white left in the lettering.
The little girl was cut from an old photo.  I made a little crown with a mica and perfect pearl top.  Then I tinted her dress with a distress marker.
To finish off the little canvas I added flowers, ticket stubs, and inked around the edges with magenta Pan Pastel.

Day 9 at the Unruly PaperArts Christmas Link Up Party

Hi all it is day 9 of the link up party.  Boy time is going fast.  Today I have for you is a set of altered Tim Holtz keys.  I inked the images with a Prima chalk edger in dark rust before adding the clear dome.  I inked the key with the same ink to tarnish it up a bit.  I added tarnished wings to the back of the keys with E6000 Then I wrapped copper wire around the base.  I made a total of 4 of these all the same way with different images.

HOW TO JOIN THE PARTY

Sorry everyone for being a day late with this.  Have not been feeling well at all.  I was inspired by icicle ornaments to create my broken spring ornaments.  These are so easy.  I wanted to all be a little different so they are not a perfect spring shape.  I wrapped them around a large round paintbrush handle and then looped the end.  They are all different sizes.  On the tree they look magnificent.  I made 2 dozen of these bad boys to fill out the tree.

Day 7 of the Unruly PaperArts Christmas link up party

I cannot believe it is already day 7.  So far I had only made one of today's ornaments for my steampunk tree. I have been hoarding my Timmy pocket watches for special projects.  Who knows, may just have to do one more.  I used Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante for the rose and gear background as well as the main image.  I used a CreativeEmbellishments gear behind the image.  I used Lumeire bronze paint and a bit of patina paint on the gear.  I tarnished the outside of the pocket watch.

Day 6 at the Unruly PaperArts Christmas Link Up Party

Hi everyone.  I made a set of 9 teeny tiny top hat ornaments.  They are just under 2 1/2 inches tall.  Each one is unique.  If I was a smart, I would have photographed all the ornaments first before putting them on the tree.  So I just grabbed two to show you how they turned out.

Day 5 at the Unruly PaperArts Christmas Link Up Party

Hi everyone.  I made a set of 6 of these cute little barn stars using the Tim Holtz Star Bright die. The paper is from the Graphic 45 collection  Steampunk Debutante. The chipboard gears are from CreativeEmbellishments.com.  I inked the stars with a Prima chalk edger in rusty bucket.

As a little bonus today, here is a sneak peek of the Christmas tree skirt with Timmy fabric.

Day 4 at the Unruly PaperArts Christmas Link Up Party

Hello friends.  Hope all is well today.  I have day 4 of my steampunk tree ornament reveal.  I love the grunge side of steampunk and made some angel wings.  I used the Tim Holtz angel wing die and made three sets of the two style wings

. The wings are made from cardboard and coverstock and the gears are CreativeEmbellishments chipboard.  The rivets are just half-back pearls. I sealed the wings with multi-medium matte before adding the Artist's Loft Course Texture Gel from Michael's to get the texture.  Lots of layers of acrylic paints although the camera doesn't pick it all up.   I am the third picture is what the backs of all the wings look like.
